First praised for his participation in John Coltrane’s legendary quartet, McCoy Tyner forged his own personal success over more than six decades, exploring all forms of the Afro-American tradition in a mix of hard bop and modal jazz. No one would have been better placed than bassist Avery Sharpe, who accompanied him for over twenty years, to capture this diversity. Leading an international and intergenerational All-Star band, Sharpe draws on Tyner’s vast catalogue of compositions to reveal the extraordinary richness of invention.
McCoy Tyner Legends is an opportunity to hear some of the world’s greatest jazz musicians interpret and perform Tyner’s iconic original music.
